50 die in attack on Sri Lanka war zone hospital

In Colombo, Sri Lanka's war zone artillery shells tore through a hospital, living at least 50 wounded civilian dead. Health workers were so overwhelmed by the crush of the wounded, the little they could do was give gauze and bandages to the roughly 1,000 patients waiting for treatment. This incident happened when the government marched to destroy the reeling Tamil Tiger rebels to end their quarter-decade quest for a seperate homeland. The wave of artillery bombardments across the war zone was the cause of the terrible incident.Armnesty International urged Obama to push for a truce and appealed to the U.N. Security Council to establish a commission of inquiry into violations of international law.

Source:No criminal case likely over torture memos

In Washington, Justice Department officials stopped short the recommending criminal charges against Bush administration lawyers, who wrote secret memos approving harsh interrogation techniques of terror suspects. Also, the Justice Department notified two senators, on Monday, that most of their work was complited. The letter did'nt metion a possibility of criminal charges, nor did it name the lawyers under scrutiny. Many have asked for the matter to be dropped. The Whitehouse scheduled a hearing on the issue, both Whitehouse and Durbin pressed the Justice Department employees.
